Maintenance Trolley Facility and Addition to Fire Station No. 2

Overview

This multifaceted maintenance trolley facility and fire station addition project involved renovating and expanding an existing fire station to enhance emergency response operations and training capabilities. The upgraded facility now includes four new bays for emergency vehicles, three modern classrooms—one of which features a cutting-edge medical simulation lab—and a high-fidelity incident command and fire training area. A new training tower was also constructed, providing the fire department with the tools and environment necessary to simulate real-life emergency scenarios.

In addition to the fire station improvements, the project included the new construction of a 12,600-square-foot, eight-bay Trolley Maintenance Facility designed to support the city’s trolley fleet. This facility also houses administrative offices and support spaces to streamline maintenance operations and fleet management.

AMBRO provided full civil engineering services to support utility upgrades and site development. The scope included decommissioning the existing septic system, replacing it with a sanitary sewer pump station, and forcing the main connection to the municipal sewer system. AMBRO performed preliminary site investigations and hydraulic analysis, prepared detailed design reports and construction drawings, and coordinated with multiple agencies, including the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department, the Florida Department of Health, and Miami-Dade County Public Works.

The team also developed contract specifications and supported the owner’s representative throughout the procurement process. Additional responsibilities included the design of site paving, grading, drainage, and driveway connections, along with coordination with the Public Works Department to ensure access through the adjacent underlying project.
